3 Super Foods To Incorporate Into Your Diet

Posted on: 19 June 2015

Sometimes, eating healthy is not about going on a diet; it's about identifying which foods you already eat that are healthy for you and incorporating them into your diet more. Here are three super foods that you should keep your eye out for when you go out to eat and that you should incorporate into your meals when you cook at home:

Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds are little tiny seeds that come from the hemp plant and have a very faint nutty taste to them. When you go out to eat, you may find hemp seeds sprinkled on salads. For cooking at home, you can add hemp seeds to just about any dish - throw some into your salad, on top of your favorite pasta or in with your favorite rice bowl. You can even mix some hemp seeds into your morning smoothie.

Hemp seeds are a great way to get your daily dose of omega-three fatty acids as well as protein. According to Livestrong, you can get 10 grams of protein from just three tablespoons of hemp seeds. If you are a vegetarian, or just want to get some protein from a non-meat source, hemp seeds are a great alternative.

Coconut

There are so many ways to consume coconut, and each one has its own unique benefits. When you are dining out, keep an eye out for dishes that contain contain coconut. Here are some spots where you may find coconut on a restaurant menu:

  • Fish cooked in coconut oil
  • Fries cooked in coconut oil
  • Coconut ice-cream
  • Other coconut flavored desserts

You can drink coconut water, cook with coconut oil, or just eat it plain. Coconut food products contain beneficial fats and acids that aid multiple body systems.

Spinach

You'll most often find spinach at restaurants as a side dish, part of a salad, or as a topping on a pizza. These are also great ways to prepare it at home. Spinach contains numerous vitamins and minerals, such as:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B2
  • Vitamin B6
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Fiber

One of the best parts about spinach is that although it is a super food, it is a food that you can easily find on most restaurant menus, ranging from your local burger joint, to pizza places to fancy restaurants. You can also find spinach in most grocery stores' produce sections for an affordable price. It is one of the easiest super foods to eat when you go out to dinner and at home.

This next week, try to incorporate hemp seeds, coconut or spinach into your diet. Pick up these super foods at your local grocery store and try to add them to at least one meal you cook this week. The next time you go out to eat, try and see if you can find one of these super foods on the menu of your favorite restaurant. Click for more information.

Remembering Your Love for Restaurants and Travel

During my years as a travel attendant, I stayed in hundreds of hotels and ate at thousands of restaurants. Unfortunately, after awhile, the glamour of travel wore off, and I started having a hard time enjoying the experience. Restaurants seemed expensive and stressful, and I needed to learn how to love the lifestyle again. Fortunately, one day I came across a travel blog that helped me to remember why visiting new places is so much fun. I made this blog for fellow restaurant lovers, so that you can remember why eating out can be exciting. By ordering properly and knowing how to communicate with waiters, you can enjoy a meal no matter where you are.
